Is there anything to do with them? my oldest boy was out there with me and I made him take his clothes off as soon as he went in, what ever they are I don't want them in my house or on the dogs. My head is itching again. Lol

Caught #15 boar coon last night. I am wondering if I should pull all my sets because of snow forcast for Thursday but It seems they would move wed night into thursday. May just take the chance and leave them out until Friday.

Leaving mine out as well. I have sets around/in old barns so leaving them is no big deal.

Leave 'em out now guys. Boars are going to move in all but the absolute worse of weather. Only deep snow will slow em down for a bit now.

Wes,
I live on the Rush/Decatur line. I'm trapping near the flat rock river in southern Rush county. Between Dad, and myself, I think we got the biggest portion of them right there around the farm. Just after the stragglers now. They are moving, I'm sure.

So I pulled my traps tonight after work since we have snow on the way. (Should have read previous posts first) I had tracks right on top of my dirt hole set, and it never fired. I set the pan tension to a 16oz hammer, and it snapped easily when I touched it with a stick. I'm not positive, but the tracks look like a fox to me. What do you guys think? Even though I'm getting my butt kicked, I'm having a ball trying to outwit these critters. It's good for my kids to see Dad struggle with something, too.

Dad caught his second last night. It was a boar. He left the sets out since they are close to his house and easy to get to.

Had a long day. Got 1/2 dozen more coons sets in, and made a couple mink/coon pocket sets in some running water. Hope they connect before next week! Also put in 4 coyote snares, and 6 scent post sets. I set the scent posts due to the snow coming in. They are easier to maintain than dirt holes in foul weather. Not the intended catch in this snare, but found this ole boy asleep in one of my coyote holes. I'll take it!

Caught #16 and 17 coon today. I have 30 some dp's out and been catching about 1 a day. All boar coon. I hear coon #s are waaay down in alot of states this year. So they say. I have been getting blanked on my foothold traps though.

The last three years of drought have taken its toll on the coons PB. The kitten coon have had it rough. I did see a couple sets of tracks along the ditches today. BUT, there are not the mashed down runs I used to see, and could catch 5 or 6 coon real quick in. Oh well, at least they won't be tearing up a bunch of our corn next year.

Kept all mine out and reset some yote sets. I had last night fresh coon tracks and repositioned several dp's around some den tree's.

You guys ever have den trees that are stained on the outside because of coons? Urine or just mud? My guess is both.

Today was our most brutal check day yet!! Cold, windy and drifting snow. We did end up w/ a nice boar and a grinner. I was really excited about a couple new coyote spots but blanked on those.

Also, what is the green ooze that comes out of a grinners butt? Don't think it is scat. Seems like most of ours have that. Pretty nasty.

Just part of the allure of the opposum!!

It is green colored mucus. Sort of a protective mechanism against attack from predators.

"Opossums are known for playing dead when predators are nearby or attack. The opossum is so good at it that it could win a creepy contest when it falls on its side, becomes limp and motionless, while the front feet ball up. Drool then comes out of its mouth and it poops with some extra green smelly mucus. Who would want to stick around this scene?"

Only caught one "Green Oozing butt Grinner" today in a MB 550 yote set. Darn things always screwing with my sets. Pulling all traps tomorrow. Gonna wait for warmer weather.

Well, we were only suppose to get 1 to 3 inches. They were off that a little….by about 5 additional inches!!!! Oh well, I'm lucky that I have to go by all of my sets to get the feeding done anyway! I had some of my scent posts up 8" or better so that I could see them in the snow…..WRONG!

Planning on setting snares in the morning. With this big melt off the two ditches will be running real high and I need to cross one to set snares. Might have to use the tractor to get across Sunday. h.h.

I took the afternoon and reset all my coon and coyote sets. Had coyotes walking around 3 of them. Warm weather will get everything moving.

I got a handful of sets out this evening and plan on getting several more out tomorrow. I saw several solo coon tracks in the snow cutting across fields and working the edges, I wonder if its boars out looking for love?

Caught 3 coons last night and one grinner. All the coons were females which is odd since I had only caught 1 female out of 17 before these 3.

BIG FAT 0 today. Well, unless you count our 5th skunk. It was a sloppy muddy mess and we had to walk to all of our sets (which I didn't mind at all).

1 dug up coyote set and a couple under water. Did you know peat moss floats right over the set?

Going to be a messy few days.

haymaker you are doing something right. you are pulling them in nightly. are you setup close to water? we got nine sets out now in a relatively small patch of woods. hope to have a couple if the possums will leave us alone.
