Nice one, PB! Checked my DP's today. Total clean out. All the bait was gone, lure licked clean, and the little bandits stole the golf balls I had plugging the holes! Reset them on a different trail, and if I can get done with chores today, I have 2 Duke 1 1/2s I'd like to set. Never enough time in the day........

Any recommendations on dipping and dying traps? I've seen te logwood, speed dip and this full metal jacket stuff. Any one better than the other??

I use rustoleum paint for predator traps. I will not put speed dip on a predator trap.

I use Speed dip for water traps and it works well.

Speed dip should be used diluted thinner than they recommend. 1:6 dip to coleman fuel and dip on a LOW humidity day with a warm breeze. Otherwise, it will never set and be sticky. You read some bad reviews and they likely did it wrong when they used it...

these are speed dipped

good link about speed dipping.

dye and wax works, but I find it to be a pain and expensive to do it right (propane and wax cost) and it takes forever. Wax also soaks up smells...not a good thing for a coyote trap.

Dakota dip works for snares but is garbage for traps

never used full metal jacket so I can't comment on it

Set my butt off today on a new property I just aquired. I got out 30 Dp's and 11 fox/coyote MB550's. Wanted to get one more 550 out but the wife was texting me cause supper was waiting. I did see quite a few coon, fox and yotes tracks, so hopefully it will pay off for me. Good thing the landowner let me use my 4 wheeler.

PB - look forward to seeing some catches man. We reset some dp's and one yote trap. Too muddy to get to where the good places are. I have been in WV more than Indiana the past 2 weeks and looks like this week will be no different.

Keep posting the catches...

I'm old school I guess. I still logwood dye, and wax. It's always worked for me, so I'm not changing that. Just something about soaking my coyote traps in fuel that doesn't seem right to me. I did paint up a couple more DP's.

I did manage to set 4 DP's today, but its still too muddy for me to try to get a coyote trap in the ground. Found some mink tracks in the fresh mud along the creek after it has went down. Might have to work on that tomorrow.

Good luck PB! Tell your wife there are things more important than eating once in a while!!!! laugh

The warm weather fell perfect on my days off so I got some traps out again and on Friday I talked my brother who don't hunt or trap really to go check them with me and we caught 3 Coon and had a good time. And then Saturday with the mild temps I got the family out. My 2 boys loved it they was trying to be the first to find the next trap and see what was in it and they thought they was big "stuff" when they found it before I did. It was a fun morning.

Got my dad two duke coon traps for Christmas and he got them out yesterday afternoon! He lives along a small river and has a lot of riverbank to work so I knew success would be quick. I sure wish I could help do this! Hopefully someday I can take part in this fun. I have talked to him a few times today and know he is enjoying these traps! Next up may be the beaver destroying his soybean food plot!

Good job dad!

Nice catch.

We got big female today. First coon in a few weeks. My traps have not been set for almost 2 weeks. Got 3/4 set back today. Coon, mink, and coyote tracks EVERYWHERE. Getting back in the game.

Nice job by all! I can't buy a coon! Matter of fact, I don't see any tracks. I've had a couple bait stations going for a week. Nadda! Could it be I got em all???

Nickgsp2, those are some GREAT pictures. I can tell you are having big fun out of this!!!!

I was going to set more traps, but it was all I could do to get the feeding done, and run the few I had set. Planned on deer hunting this evening too. Ended up bundled up on the couch freezing to death, and sweating at the same timeā€¦.watching football, and napping. Got a bug thats kicking my butt!

How often are you guys checking your traps? Is once a morning enough? Just curious what the guys that are actually trapping critters are doing.... smile

Once a day for me. I know guys that go out in the morning, and after dark. Not needed, and disturbing an area too much for my taste. I believe the regs say once every 24 hours.

in the morning with a headlamp. I put coon #41 on the season in the freezer this afternoon

regs say 24 hours, no need to check twice daily.

Setting more traps on fresh sign is how to catch more coons IMO

Nice catches Nick!!

Trapping is a great activity to bring the kids along for...lot easier than sitting still in a cold deer stand.

I have been checking before work at 5:30 am. Wasn't sure if it was worth another check on the way home, just in case I had a catch after my morning check. I'll have pics to post sooner, or later....

Thanks Yaz. Get to feeling better.

41 coons is a lot of fur! Thanks for the info, 76. Hope you make 50.

Boars are in what I would call the pre rut here=on the move checking dens for sows and their nuts are swollen. I have seen no evidence of sows in heat yet in my area, 75+ percent of coon treed (by dogs) on the outside right now is a big boar!

I just check mine once a day also. Don't like to scent the place up anymore than that. Like to set mine along edges so I can check them without getting out of truck or off 4 wheeler but that's not always possible.

You all as a group have to be up to about 80 coons, 6 mink and 9 coyotes, or something like that. Congrats to all.

We have a trapper who has bucket sets all over our farm, hope he catches them all. I'll check with him in the next couple of days to see how many he has caught, hope it exceeds 100!

I want EVERY coon dead and gone as well as any grinner or skunk that inveaded our house earlier this year .

Caught a huge boar coon today in a MB550 yote set. At first I thought it was a beaver. He stretched out at 35 1/2 inches. Caught 4 grinners too. Sure is muddy out.

Good catches once again everybody! Still no coons for me.

Feeling a little better Cornfed. Thanks! Went to work, come home early, and ran traps, fed fat cows, and actually went to the deer stand and froze till dark. Not too smartā€¦ā€¦But nobody has ever accused me of being that!

Thats a huge ole coon PB! dang. I was walking out from hunting tonight, and seen a light spot on the trail. Fearing Pepi LaPew, I turned my light on, and it was a huge grinner. I walked right up to him, and he just looked up at me. I didn't have the heart to do it! He'll probably end up in one of my yote sets later on, whizzing me off! laugh

Rode the 4wheeler around looking for tracks and didnt see a yote track but I did see several deer. One was a nice buck that i seen several times this year and let him go. He will be a real nice buck next year. h.h.

Good question. Its one of the three. I'd say fleas. All the lice I've seen have been on coyotes, and they are white, and tiny. Come out by the millions! Makes my skin crawl just thinking about it!!! I spent the afternoon looking for coon sign. Only a couple of tracks along a ditch. Not seeing much, nothing in the traps.
