Big thank you to the Sagamore Chapter of Pheasants Forever. We did a controlled burn in White County last week-end to improve the habitat for gamebirds. Saw turkey, deer and PHEASANTS come out of these fields as we were burning. Did a total of about 40 acres in some really high winds. These guys are pros.

The birds need the support more then most other species. Nice going.

Actually when I think about it we burned 4 separate areas on the same farm. Each one was about 20 acres so it was about 80 acres total. We had another 80 we could have burned but the habitat had stood up really well last winter so we left it. And there's another 40 acres or so on another farm they are going to try and get this week-end. One of the kids found a shed antler and an Indiana arrowhead. Neat day.

They bought that truck from the Boswell Fire Dept when they got a new one. Paid about $3k for it. They also have 2 dedicated 4 wheelers with tanks for fire suppression. That chapter spent about $70k last year planting and burning in the Lafayette area.

Jack

P.S. Not my first burn but one of the best run I've been on.

Mine was standing up well as you can see but Had a lot of unwanted stuff the good thing about WSG it comes up late so I was able to kill Teasel,Sour dock and Canada thistle and Blue grass without hurting what I wanted to keep Today.. Joe If you see this Scottish thistle can be killed NOW REAL SOON before the WSG breaks dormancy
