Just wondering what thoughts are occupying the thoughts of fellow deer hunters. I've been deer hunting for about 40 years and some things new to me or back on my radar are:
Hinge cutting
Horizontal rubs
Cold front hunting
Mineral stumps
Ineffectiveness of deer culling
Purpose of minerals
Food plots
Ozone generators for scent reduction
AR 15 in 308

What's ratteling around in your head?

Treat me like I'm your best friend and it may happen

Fall food plot renewal with clover/oats/rye, early season buck lures and scrape doctoring, fall vine control and selective tree removal/firewood for camp, plant chestnuts and white oak seedlings after season. Reloading for several calibers, but hope to not need big medicine this year. I had great experience with nose jammer last year and will be using it again.

Wondering what it'll be like to bow-hunt the tiny Coues Whitetail deer in the desert this winter. First time trying it for me.

A mature doe is about 65 lbs, and an adult buck about 100 lbs.

A good scoring buck is in the 80-90 inch range.

Stick over the years I have noticed all the hunts you go on and just curious how close you are from the super slam and if that is the goal. My oldest who is 5 picked out Tom mirandas super slam video and that is his favorite thing to watch

Huntin is not a matter of life and death, its more important than that

Not necessarily looking to go for the archery NA29 at this time, but I might change my mind in the future wink

But I will admit it'd sure be nice to arrow a Desert Bighorn ram someday and complete the archery sheep slam.

I still love Indiana deer hunting, but there's also a whole other world of hunting to be done and places to visit that I don't want to miss out on. Life is too short!

Your 5-yr old has good taste! I really enjoyed Miranda's video too. The emotion Tom shows when he finally took that DBH really struck a chord.

Fellas I may have to change my name on here. With three kids and a new puppy I had to jump ship and bail on my traditional equipment. I just don't have the free time to shoot enough as I feel necessary to hunt with my recurve. Oh and in a month I'll be in Colorado elk hunting...

I am a big fan of Tom Miranda too. His old trapping videos are excellent

Running some cams and learning more about moon phases and deer activity this off season...Not a "true believer" yet but am going to give it a try this season.

Read "Moon Struck" by Jeff Murray and reading Whitetail Wisdom now.

This will be my 23rd deer season (started archery hunting at age 13). I will be out October 1 somewhere in Western Indiana.
