think he will make it ! - 04/29/2014 07:26 PM

Old bill is just that.old but a more well minded dog you will never find. Not a hunting dog at all but a great farm dog... I thought I was going to have to put him down but a few days with the vet and he's doing much better! Gonna bring the old guy back tomorrow if all goes well.. he isn't pain so I won't put him down. Funny how a guy gets so attached to a dog!. Heck I'm not that attached to my wife and its her dog! ( its been my dog for 6 years).. if he pulls through this he is going to have a new buddy. I've decided to pull the trigger and train one more pup! God help me!

Can't wait to see this vet bill!

Been a thread on a website called the Refuge about this very thing. It has been interesting to read how guys deal with the end of their dogs life. Whether to take them to the vet, have the vet come to the house, dealing with it themselves, all emotional. The one common thing though is its tough to deal with. Best wishes on the possible difficulty ahead.

Ive been breeding and raising dogs for over 30+ years and its hard to put one down whether its a puppy or an old faithful. When I decided to raise dogs I told myself I would treat my dogs the best that I could but when it came time to put them down I would do it without hesitation. I have to admit its been a hard thing to do at times and missed many of them afterwards. Amazing things about dogs, all they want is for you to love them. h.h.

Old bill is back at the compound. Still on meds . He's right where he needs to be. Cost me about 500.00 but money well spent. He's not in pain so I'll give him a comfortable life that he deserves. I think he will have one more summer following me around on the tractor.. may have to get a new pup sooner than I wanted so bill can teach him his manners!.. good to have the old boy home!

Life is a funny thing. Yesterday I was on cloud nine about my son and then I lost my old loyal friend today. He was no hunter but man he was loyal! Pulling the truck in the drive and not seeing him there to greet me is tough.

RIP my loyal friend

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Yup..
I've spent tons of time doing research the last few days. I think I've made up my mind on a gsp /lab mix. Most dog guys would turn their nose up in destain but I had one and he was great! This will be the last hunting dog I'll ever train. I hope I'm up for the challenge and get to see him work!
