Coyotes in the summer - 07/10/2014 10:54 PM

Finally was able to set the trail camera out in a new spot and get some interesting things on it such as a coon, crows, and a coyote. This coyote was eating deer bait...the stuff you buy in the store. AWW...I didn't know they ate that stuff. But it was cool. Got a nice big 8 on the camera as well...I will try to post the videos later.

They will eat about anything.

I have seen them eat corn, beets, and even salt on trail cam videos before.

HUH...cool. My neighbor has six or seven large apple trees in the back of his house in front of a thicket and we got about 20 - 25 videos of coyotes eating old apples. It was so funny in one video- a coyote took an apple and sat down and it looked just like a dog with a ball in its mouth. Fun times. I love trail cams!!! laugh

Yes...most likely...I think they eat, kill, and do whatever to get meat.

Young man,,,,,you have just done what every coyote trapper wants to do. Get a coyote coming in to one spot, expecting to find something to eat. If you don't spook him by leaving too much scent, and keep feeding him a little treat once in a while, you can nail him right there! Pay CLOSE attention to where his feet are placed, compared to where he is sticking his face to grab him a bite. What does that tell you? laugh

I don't know your answer...but it tells me where to set the trap...what angle...and where to set the bait where I dig the hole. He has been there a couple times...so.

You just keep feeding him there. Don't dig a hole or anything. You just keep paying close attention on how he enters the view on the camera, and how he approaches the "set". HE will teach you about everything you need to know. And YES, he will likely place his feet in the same place every time he comes in there. That is where you will eventually want the center of the pan of the trap to go. Keep posting vids of him!

+1

the coyote is the best teacher. This one looks like a pup and I am sure there are other young dumb ones around.

Get your skinning knife sharpened and space in the freezer!

Waterways are typically great set locations for coyotes too.

Re: Coyotes in the summer - 08/08/2014 10:48 PM

I got as much as $37.50 for a few of my January and February coyotes this year. I also got $7.00 for one that was caught late into the season/spring, and was past prime. The early auction was good. The second one was not, and we still have a lot of fur that did not sell, including 4 coyotes. The $$ is nice, but not the reason I trap…….
