Homemade e-caller

Homemade e-caller - 09/12/2012 06:51 PM

Finished up my e-caller today. Pretty happy with it. Mounted the decoy base on top stores inside nicely. I use my iPhone for calls, I got a long cord i run back to where i sit (about 100') really works nice and very cheap.

How are you hooked up to the speaker?

Re: Homemade e-caller - 09/12/2012 07:31 PM

My iPhone plugs into an amplifier(radio shack 14.99). Then my speaker is in the out plug of the amp.

Cool. What do you think your total cost was?

Re: Homemade e-caller - 09/12/2012 10:11 PM

50 dollars total
15 for amp
20 for speaker
5 for cords
10 for decoy (on sale)

Going to do this. Thanks for the info.

Its very simple. The sounds from the iPhone are crystal clear and with the amp and the phone you get 2 volume controls which works great to get the sound perfect. I have been hearing coyotes all around my house every night can't wait to get out after them.

Re: Homemade e-caller - 09/13/2012 07:17 AM

What sounds are you using or did you make your own?

Re: Homemade e-caller - 09/13/2012 07:39 AM

There are several free downloads you can get.
Like Kyle reminded me put you phone in airplane mode this will disable the actual phone and prevent it from ringing over the speaker. Learned that one the hard way.

Don't use the ones from the app store. I got mine from an actual. Website. I will try to find it and post a link

Good ole Varmit Al's Web site. That is one of the first places I went to read about hunting coyotes. I still have some of the calls from there that I downloaded onto my ipod device.

The siren sounds worked great when I played them though a Radio Shack Amphlier and loud speaker.

In fact I'm going to use the Radio Shack Outdoor 50 Watt Speaker with my FoxPro FX3 caller the next time I go out. I found out today that I can get a lot more volume out of the external outdoor 50 wat speaker than I can with the one's built into the FX3 caller. And I think that the sounds are better using the external speaker. The only thing that's bad is that I have to carry one more thing out into the field to make a stand. Every thing adds up in weight and bulk and makes carrying everything into the field harder.

How is radio shack still in business???

How is your caller working out?

Re: Homemade e-caller - 12/17/2013 06:44 AM

I made the Varmint Al e-caller probably 5 years ago and still use it today. I used one of his calling sequences on the very first stand I ever made and killed a nice female at about 15 yards.

Re: Homemade e-caller - 12/17/2013 07:15 PM

I can't wait to do this over the holidays. I have to think though that there could be a wait to eliminate the wire from the phone and have the amp get the signal wirelessly?

Re: Homemade e-caller - 12/18/2013 04:58 AM

a wireless microphone and receiver is one option to go wireless. They start at about $80 from what I have found.

The caller goes from "el cheapo" to "not so el cheapo" fast

Is there a parts list out there for this homebrew e-caller? This would be a great project for me and my youngboy to build.
