pan tension

What is a good way to test pan tension and how much should it be.

I am no professional but they sell the testers and if I remember around four pounds. I just made a weight out of water bottle and sand until it weight 4 lbs. Then sit it on the pan but like I said there are others who will chime in that probably know more

You want it heavy enough so by the time he feels the pan move the step is committed !!

Yep, or a 2x4 cut off till it weighs what you want the tension to be.
