Trapping season a day early for us.

Trapping season a day early for us. - 10/14/2013 05:33 PM

Evidently, Luke just caught a neighbors cat in a homemade snare made out of plastic coated cable. I didn't think he would have any kind of a chance on getting one the way he had them tied. I was wrong, so we had to have a conversation. Cat NOT hurt by the way.

What gets me is they (the neighbors) let them breed all year and they come to my house and crap and spray. Sometimes they have 15-20.

Luke had to go pull his "traps". Good thing we can set some steel out this week.

I'd put up with that cat situation all of about 30 seconds!

Bean,
If you got that many nuisance cats on your property, then Id be helping that boy set some more snares! h.h.

Probably doesn't speak highly of me, but any type of "pets" running loose are not a welcome thing to me. Never makes me feel real good but cats or dogs simply aren't welcome and there is no tolerance.

Yep Billy, it gets old if it happens once. I drive almost 2 hours one way to hunt and "pets" are taken care right away.

I have not had too many issues with dogs recently.

I would not do anything to injure someone's pet irregardless of how the owner chooses to act.

I read what one trapper does. They turn the dog/cat loose once. The next time, it goes directly to the pound. The owner has to pay to get them out, so it hopefully leads to a change in behavior

Even though folks who live in the country don't like it at times, there is a leash law. When I used to have more patience then I do today, I used to get the CO involved. He's visit the dog owner and let them know that their pet could be/would be taken from them by animal control. Of course, the landowner would always say their dog never was on our farm, but my trail camera pictures was all that it took to end the discussion. Now, I have neighbors near our farm that wouldn't speak to me if I was the last person on earth. More severe actions are always "considered" if the situation continues. That said, it is a rare, very rare situation anymore that a dog or cat is seen on trail cams or in person. What was great this year is that I caught our farmer tenants son riding a four wheeler through standing beans on trail camera. The farmers reaction was pretty pointed when he saw the picture. Sorry for the misdirection on this thread. Won't happen again.

My neighbors are very recluse. We have lived here 10 years and I bet MAYBE we have spoken 3-4 times. So approaching them about the cats would not do any good. I think the last time we spoke Luke was 5 and he told them they needed to mow their yard.

As the year goes on several "disappear" but the numbers always spike back up as none of them are fixed. Things drive me nuts by spraying and droppin turds in my garden and yard, which my lab finds tastey.

Oh well, could be worse things to deal with. News has gotten around about Luke's snaring skills - he has been offered jobs to take care of pests elsewhere.

Great for him!

I hope he snares a pile of coyotes!
