Dunes Nat. Lakeshore starts cull - 03/06/2013 07:07 PM

A deer cull commenced Monday night in the Indiana Dunes Nat. Lakeshore in accordance with a plan approved in 2012 by the NPS(Nat. Park Service). The plan provides, among other things, Sharpshooting....
The plan approved up to 345 deer to be taken the first year, however, Bruce Rowe NPS spokesperson says only about 150 will be killed over the next three weeks. For public safety, the NPS will not give the location of the sites, saying there are multiple sites and are away from "public areas"...Total personnel will be between 4 and 7 people. Tests for CWD WILL be taken....The preference is for females, however any deer that comes to the sites will be taken...

No, not that I'm aware of...Dinicola is White Buffalo....APHIS is part of the Dept. of Agriculture(USDA)....Google it, its kinda a long read....there are 6 different operational units, I'm guessing it is their Wildlife Service unit that is involved here..... the guys that live along the parks boarders will be seeing even less deer come next season....There will be shooting sites in both Lake and Porter Counties from what Ive been told and maybe a site some where in around the Mt. Baldy area just across the line into Laporte Co....I personally do not know where any of the sites are or the exact number, but 150 deer is quite a few to be killed in the 3 weeks they plan on doing the cull/killings.....The areas have been pre-baited and they may drive on their own roads and do sniping from a vehicle I believe....they are not Governed under any state laws as Dinicola was in Dunes Acres, so they can pretty much do what they want on NPS properties....
