DNR to start second round of input on fish, hunt, trap regulations

The DNR Division of Fish & Wildlife wants to hear your thoughts about suggested fishing, hunting and trapping regulations in Indiana.

From July 15 to Aug. 1, the public can use a convenient online form to provide input to the DNR. The process is like a “virtual” open house.

To participate, go to wildlife.IN.gov and click on the “Got INput?” box near the middle of the page. The form will be available for use beginning July 15. A list of potential regulations will also be available on the “Got INput?” page.

There will also be two on-site open houses, one in southern Indiana and another in northern Indiana. The first open house will be July 25 from 5-7 p.m. at the Spring Mill State Park Inn near Mitchell. The second open house will be July 30 from 5-7 p.m. at the Plymouth Public Library in Plymouth.

Input on specific suggested regulations can also be mailed to:

DNR Division of Fish & Wildlife
Attn: Proposed Regulatory Changes
402 W. Washington St., Room W273
Indianapolis, IN 46204

The July 15 to Aug. 1 public input period is the second input period by the Division of Fish & Wildlife this year. The earlier round was May 15 to June 1.

After reviewing input, DFW staff will consider all suggestions before proposing regulations to the Natural Resource Commission.

ThroBak:

I was at a meeting recently where the trophy fishing/ comercial fishing was discussed. Bill James (chief fish biologist) said they are working on the issue, and believe it or not, Kentucky also has it on their agenda also! It will not be in this rule package but probably the next one.... So it is at least two years away. Not what you wanted to hear but it is on the "list".

The Hold up is No one Has Cared till Now, The Cf,s from out of state have been calling the shots. That is Changing, It will No Longer be approprate for so few (CF,s) to call the shots for sportsman in Indiana And Kentucky. Check out the Paylake WEB,s Catfish Paradise that is Only ONE of Many The only place they are allowed to set their Nets To Fill their Mudpuddles Is Indiana And Kentucky. Guess where all the Paylake owners all over the Mid west are coming to.. Ohio ,W Va, Penn.,Ill, ALL have reg,s or NO CF,s WE welcome them with a 135.00 Licence And they are taking advantage of it

$135 is such a huge insult to sportsmen. The State of Indiana is willing to "sell off" our fish for an individuals personal financial again for $135! What a crock. Hey, the stupid people are probably us who should take advantage of this crap and make some money on the side. Remember this, EVERYTHING is for sale in Indiana!

The key to this is Kentucky, they are in control of the river. IDNR is ready today to move forward on this issue. On teh Wabash river Illinois doesn't seem too interested in restricting commercial fishing either.

Throbak, I would invite Bill James (fish biologist) to one of your meetings. He is more than willing to meet and talk to fishing groups.

A GREAT guy!

Bump....

Visit the Got INput webpage at http://hunting.in.gov/7373.htm

There you'll find a comprehensive list of suggestions, a suggestion summary, and a list of issues we intend to pursue.

All issues were broken up into three categories:

1. Issues the division is moving forward with in the rule making process.

2. Issues that need further review.

3. Issues that are not regulation (administrative rule).

A little update on the Got INput process:

"The Got INput system is up and running for round two of online comment input. The site has a summary of the topics from the first round as well as the entire list of comments. A total of 465 comments were collected in the first round.

Additionally, it has documents explaining what issues the division moving forward with in the rule making process, both ones that DFW staff has come up with as well as a few suggestions from the public from the first round of Got INput.

The second round of input officially starts July 15 and runs until August 1."

Re: DNR to start second round of input on fish, hunt, trap regulations - 07/27/2012 11:16 AM

Its on a lot smaller scale, but no different than the ban on red snapper in the gulf. The commercial guys gets all the alloted take, and the guides and sport fishermen get nothing. Its all about the big $$. As I told THROBAK, Ky is going to be the obstacle in this. When we (Indiana) banned the paddlefish snagging, all you have to do is go across the river to do it. So, what we done had little effect.

Re: DNR to start second round of input on fish, hunt, trap regulations - 07/27/2012 01:09 PM

From what I gathered at the spring Mill Mtg, KENTUCKY IS the Obstacle Indiana,s excuse is Ky.and Ill. wont do any thing so we should wait to see what they do before we do anything,,, I THROBAK speaking for Myself Think, We should LEAD the charge not be a follower to a History of Missmanagment. Then it would be West Va., Penn.Ohio and INDIANA that has Limits and restriction,s on the CF,s and our Catfish resource and then the above mentioned states would put pressure on KY. and Ill. to follow suitIMO

Re: DNR to start second round of input on fish, hunt, trap regulations - 07/27/2012 11:20 PM

Throbak - there are 2 routes to getting something done. The first and most preferred is going through the NRC/DNR to get what you want. The second is sometimes quicker and easier - find a sympathetic legislator to introduce legislation to make it happen. My advice would be to sit down in a private meeting with DNR staff and evaluate the chances of getting what you want. If it doesn't seem it will happen then go to plan B.
