Fried Green Tomatoes

Fried Green Tomatoes - 08/30/2014 05:13 PM

I had my first batch of fried green tomatoes this evening along with smoked pork chops and fried taters. What a tasty meal it was.

I like to use tomatoes that are mostly green with a slight pink on them for frying. Season them in 50/50 mix of flour and corn meal, salt and pepper, then fried in bacon grease. YUM!

Who else likes fried green tomatoes? h.h.

We love em, too. We freeze green tomatoes at the beginning and towards the end of the season. Slice and flour them just like your getting ready to fry them, then put them on a cookie sheet and stick them in the freezer overnight. In the morning take the frozen green tomatoes and throw em in a Baggie. No freezer burn and you can have FGT in the winter.

Cornfed....do you take them from the freezer straight to the frying pan? Surely you do...or wouldn't they be "mushy'?? confused

We fry them right out of the freezer. You get a little splatter sat first, but they turn out great.

I'm with Bo. I love me some garden fresh tomatoes. We've had a ton of them this year. Yet, I can't stand a green tomato.
