BowBo's Crab & Crawdad Stew ~ AWARD WINNER!

I made this dish for our ANNUAL SUPERBOWL COOKOFF at work...... and WON HANDS DOWN!!

Excellent dish, if you like seafood!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

>2 Full Cups of Crab Meat
>1/2 Pound of Crawdad Meat
>2 Cans of Evaporated Milk
>2 Cans of Cream of Mushroom Soup
>1 Can Cream of Potato Soup
>1 Can Cream of Celery Soup
>4 Big Potatoes (cubed real small)
>Green Onions (just the green ends chopped - scallions)
>1/2 Stick of Butter
>Worcestershire Sauce (couple good dashes)
>Hot Sauce (a good dash)
>Garlic Powder (small dash)
>Zatarains Creole Seasoning (a bunch of dashes)
>Salt and Pepper to taste


You can pretty much cook all the ingredients together at one time. I cook the taters on the side till they are semi-soft first tho..... then into the crock pot it all goes!

As far as the crab meat.... Chicken of the Sea has LUMP CRAB MEAT, which I will break up and use as a filler for the BIG pot of stew. But I also bought PHILLIPS CRAB CLAW MEAT for the main chunky meat in the stew.

As for the Crawdad meat.... I buy the BAO LONG BRAND CRAWFISH TAILMEAT.

Tried a version of this last night (because I could not find crawfish tails at Kroger)
VERY GOOD.
I also added scallops to it.
My wife didn't want to try it, so more for me!

Any suggestions where to find crawfish tails (in a store that is)
and also Zataran's creole seasoning. Also could not find

I always see them in Walmart's freezer section in a bag.

I got the tails at Marsh last time.

There are only a couple stores that has the Zataran Creole.... and I don't know which. My wife buys the normal stuff like that when grocery shopping. I'm only in charge of "specialty" items that I need for my recipes!

Ditto on that. I have to get my own "special" items too. She also does not eat deer meat!

Sounds like the Zataran's creole is a liquid, not powder?
I will try Marsh and/or Wally **** for the tails.

Well I got a crock pot batch of this going now. I'm a fan of the Tony Chachere's Creole Seasoning so that's what I used. Walmart had a bunch of frozen crawfish tails. These were 12oz packages so I dumped the whole 3/4 pounds in

I'm gonna have to try this recipe. I have three pounds of crawdads in the freezer that I trapped in four hours Friday night. If I use em, it'll give me an excuse to go out an extra time beofre I have a crawdad boil.

I just fixed your Crab and Crawdad Stew here at the firehouse tonight (Beech Grove FD). It was awesome and all the guys loved it. We made a big batch of sweet cornbread to go along with it. I followed the recipe to a T, except I added a diced Vidalia Onion to the pot. I just wanted to say thank you for sharing your recipe with us. I would not dispute this as an award winning dish. I've made numerous batches since Bow has posted this. Yep, Wally has everything right down to the crawdad tails.

One time I used fresh lobster instead.

I am making this for the work Christmas party next weekend too!

FINALLY was able to locate crawfish tails here locally in Indy area, after checking everywhere under the sun.

Was almost ready to purchase online for a HIGH price, and decided to try YATS restaurant (their chili cheese crawfish etouffee is awesome).

I asked where they got theirs and if they would sell me any frozen. $7 per pound, so I stocked up! Was going to be $18 per pound on website I found.

All the walmarts around here carry the crawdad tails.

Not sure why they don't up here...only the whole crawfish boiled and frozen for $15/pound.

Wonder how many it would take to make a pound of tails?

I get my crawfish at walmart but it sounds like Yats sells them cheaper at $7/lb.

Ok, I'm ready to try this but I've got a couple technical questions...

1. Big or small cans of soup?

2. Do you ONLY dump the contents of the can (condensed soup) or do you throw a can of water or milk in as well?

Only enough water OR milk to get all contents out of the (soup) cans...... and I use normal size soup cans. Unless you are making a bigger batch.

been too long....time for another batch of it!

Made a batch tonight in a cast iron Dutch oven and it is awesome. I added a can of the tiny shrimp and forgot to add the butter. Wife made a pan from the box red lobster biscuits. It's great been wanting to make this for about 8 years almost and I regret not making it sooner. Side note thought I have only started liking more sea food the older I get beside the crawfish and freshwater fish
