.22 rifle - 01/03/2015 07:35 PM

Looking to get Luke his own .22 rifle for squirrel hunting. He has been using mine and it is past time for his own.

Been looking online at packages. Looking for something under $250.00.

Suggestions? Maybe have a good used one for sale?

Either Marlin or Savage have some pretty good bolt action .22s for that price. CDNN has 10/22s for a good price.

A Marlin Model 60 is hard to beat for the $$.

Re: .22 rifle - 01/04/2015 08:41 AM

I agree with Weedy. Marlin 60 is probably the most popular .22 on the market followed by the Ruger 10-22. Nice thing about the Ruger is there are many aftermarket parts made for the Ruger. I have a Savage Mark II bolt gun that I gave less than $200.00 for and its a tack driver with just about any ammo you shoot in it. h.h.

On the other hand...you could find that fine boy a nice CZ and be done with it! wink cool

Re: .22 rifle - 01/04/2015 09:12 AM

Thanks guys. We have looked at the CZ's. Very nice guns but more than the budget allows. I may shop around and see if I can find one that is used. He also likes the Savages. MKII are nice and we are leaning that way.

His money. It is what he has saved up for.

Looks nice. I'm sure it shoots pretty good too!
Does it accept scopes... I assume?

Re: .22 rifle - 01/04/2015 12:03 PM

Looks great, especially with wood! Hard to beat that set-up! I've never seen a Savage that wouldn't shoot accurately.. cool

Looks like it's drilled and tapped for mounts.

I have a MK II with heavy barrel. No complaint!

Re: .22 rifle - 01/04/2015 12:34 PM

Might want to get a 5 shot clip too because when you shoulder the gun the 10 shot clip will dig you in the back.......ask me how I know this mad

You can use the 10 for practice shooting and the 5 for hunting when you sling the gun. h.h.

All I can tell ya is that I have a ruger 10/22 rifle and so far nothing has beat it compared to the other Remington and marlin 22 rifles I have shot.

I bought a Savage Mark II years ago for $100 brand new when my local Wal Mart still sold guns. Put a 3X9 Simmons on top, and HH is right, it is a tack driver. One of my favorite rifles.

Re: .22 rifle - 01/25/2015 02:07 PM

Luke,

Best of luck with that new .22 rifle. I don't know you, but I'm going to offer a bit of advice.

1. Enjoy that new rifle. Be careful and have fun with it.

2. Never sell that rifle. I sold my first .22 for something "better" many years ago and I've always regretted it. There is nothing "better" than your first rifle.

Yep that's a good looking gun and you'll make many memories with it. Got my son a Savage .17 a few years back. He still loves shooting it. Congrats !
