HOOSIER HUNTING QUAD RIDE

HOOSIER HUNTING QUAD RIDE - 10/04/2008 12:54 AM

Just Curious, how many would be interested in a quad ride in southeast IN around Jan. or Feb.? It would be for any HH member and whoever they wanted to bring. We could have a campfire and cookout. We could also have beverages and camping could be provided onsite. If there are enough people interested, say 5 or more we could start planning it. You wouldn't have to have a quad either you could just hang out for the commeradary. Sound fun? Post if you are interested.

Derslayer, maybe some of you Northerns could car pool or caravan? I'm interested, me plus probably 3 or 4 of my buddies. Fullrut, did you see where there are a bunch of Veterans getting together in Harlan in February? Probably a weekend thing, its on the Ridge Runners site.

Looks like a party then. We'll ride and we'll rock. Now lets just figure out a date.

Re: HOOSIER HUNTING QUAD RIDE - 10/05/2008 03:53 PM

well I'll be home late November, early December. Lets look towards January or February, like you stated earlier, not sure of dates, just any weekend, as long as I give the boss a heads up, I should be good. I'll try and get Ernie to come too. Guess we have some time, no big rush. Looking forward to it

Ernie, you still got the Raptoid? I am quadless these days, but I have a Ranger that will haul several coolers of beverages.

Re: HOOSIER HUNTING QUAD RIDE - 10/06/2008 08:35 AM

Bo, did you see the new RZR(S) pretty sweet but you give up the 50 inch width that most trails allow??
Posted By: gpd005

Re: HOOSIER HUNTING QUAD RIDE - 10/06/2008 10:53 AM

I'm telling you those RZR's can go just about anywhere you want! I rode in one all weekend at the Badlands while we put on a race there and those things are a blast!!! I might be interested in this trail ride as well!
Posted By: recon33alpha

Re: HOOSIER HUNTING QUAD RIDE - 10/06/2008 01:23 PM

gpd, would you say you had as much fun in the RZR versus a quad or dirtbike?? I've been heavily thinking about getting a rzr, just don't want to sacrafice fun for comfort..

Re: HOOSIER HUNTING QUAD RIDE - 10/09/2008 08:07 PM

Count Momma Bear and I in! Sounds like a lot of fun!

We did a huge ride through Hoosier national forest a couple years back with some of the folks from Midwest trail riders, we had a blast!

The camping, fire, and food sounds great!

Momma Bear and I can bring some tasty treats and drinks for the group!

We have two quads, both Arctic cat, A 400 and a 250, both 4X4’s

Let’s make this happen, let us know what we can do to help plan it, and what we can bring.

Sounds like tons of fun!

Bear.

Anybody else thinkin of bringin the little woman? My wife gets an extra 500 bucks for takin a vacation around this time, since it is of peak. We do it every year. I,m sure she,d go with me, but she wouldnt want to be the ONLY other female there. I know its cold as heck about that time but nuttin carhardts wont take care of. I,ve got a GMC savanna (van), very comfortable for any central indiana car poolers, and plenty of trailor. If this gets coordinated, I,d be in, it,ll take some of the cabin fever out besides ice fishin...

Re: HOOSIER HUNTING QUAD RIDE - 10/13/2008 02:54 PM

Derslayer1:

My better half with definitely be there! As long as its one of the dates listed above. She would not miss it, so tell your wife to come on and have some fun!

Also if kids will be allowed, My daughter and her friend would join the party they are 13 years old, but are plenty use to adult party’s with drinking, food, and adult conversation so they would not take away from the party.

Don’t get me wrong they do not drink them selves, just been around it a lot. smile

What do you all think about January 24-25?
Posted By: recon33alpha

Re: HOOSIER HUNTING QUAD RIDE - 10/13/2008 09:05 PM

should work for me.

I will more then likely camp (especially after city water), which raises my next question for Fullrut. Is there a barn or something to stay in, I don't mind sleeping in my tent (have a heater) I'm just curious. Also, is it bring your own food or do we want to try something like hog butts, or venison quartered on a slow fire? Guess that would depend on how many plan to attend. I will possibly have at least three total in my group maybe more, maybe less. I'll know more once I'm home. Man, I can't wait to get home...lol laugh

Well, that worked for the page...Kids here too but i AINT bringin em (LOL), Ya'll figger out a date, I,d be in. I go to Minnesota 2 times every year to ice fish with a buddy, usually around jan and feb, but thats easily gotten around. I,d just make it before or after the quad ride cool

I am working the 24th and 25th of January so we would not be able to make it. frown

The dates I listed above are the only ones I could make it on. But we understand if those dates won't work. Maybe next year.

Thanks

sweet the list is growing. Even with the cold, this event should be a blast
Posted By: Bear

Re: HOOSIER HUNTING QUAD RIDE - 10/14/2008 12:54 PM

Cold weather is by far the best for these events,

1.No sweating, stinking, hot and sticky! frown
2.Makes you love the camp fire even more!
3.You can always put on more warm clothes in the winter, but you can only take off so many cloths in the summer.
4.Hot food tastes that much better!
5.Gives you a good excuse to cuddle with your special someone! Hu that is if you’re bringing them, I’m not snuggling with anyone from this forum! laugh Ok maybe a little, and only if you will respect me after words.

Hey Bear pm me sometime, we live real close together. Kneeling Over A BOONER, HOPEFULLY is right on your doorstep. Hey wtlhaven- HERE KITTY KITTY KITTY! Pulling Artic cat’s out? Hey if you’re not stuck then you’re not having fun! laugh

Although I do remember my Cat doing a lot of pulling people out in Evart’s KY when they were screaming for help.

But don’t worry Recon just like the snuggling comment I won’t tell anyone when my Cat rips your Brute from the mud with her Claws. wink

well, not sure what kind of mud I'll get into, don't have snorkels or any mods yet, but Bear, I won't even charge for the first pull out, after that its 20 bucks a hook up. It definetly is going to be a blast can't wait. Anyone staying the night out there? Might set up the tent in Chrises barn

Re: HOOSIER HUNTING QUAD RIDE - 12/04/2008 09:06 PM

As much fun as it is pulling people out with my Cat, I must say watching Mamma Bear; my blond 120lb 5,2 wife riding her 250 4X4 Cat through everything the big boys do and then watching their faces as they get stuck and she fly’s right by em is priceless.

It’s even better when she turns around to go back and help some old boy get his big beast out of the mud with her little 250. confused

Watch out boys she is crazy! And she lets that Cat run! laugh

I let her lead once, I say once because I could not keep up with her so now I lead. eek

Let's see here. With 100 lbs of meat and at the rate 2.4 lbs of meat to a roll of that famous stuff, you should get back a ATLEAST 41 rolls.... Man you'd think a guy could spare a few rolls for his H.H. buddies now wouldn't ya Trophy????.... :p .... laugh

Ya know Trophy, I'll bet it's a Ford anyway. You know, either battery powered or runs off one of those big rubber bands. Get'n gas from it wouldn't have been an option anyway... :p ... laugh

All joking aside, I definetly don't expect anything more than a place to ride since that's what he'sffering up. Throw in some good times with old friends, the meeting of new ones, and we've got something great!!!!

Yeah, I noticed the date after the picture. And its COLTS BLUE!!!!

BTW,when new that color was extra money, think they called it Electric Blue, you can still get a 650 in that color, but not the 09 750's

Recon, I thought you were riding a kawi not a cat. When you said you would be so far behind I associated that with a Cat rider. Now you have me really cornfused. If I were to buy anything besides my honda it would be what you are riding. This is going to be one good time.

Re: HOOSIER HUNTING QUAD RIDE - 12/26/2008 10:31 AM

Well, I really like it, it is an 07, only had a 100 miles on it when I got a month ago. It isn't EFI, so very very cold natured, but once warmed up, runs like a beast. I had to adjust the needle jet up two clips to get it dialed in. If you punch the gas and it hooks up, it will flip over!! Nothing like a 700lb machine that does wheelies with just a stab at the throttle... Looking at some Maxxis Bighorns, for when I goto Evarts and other rough riding areas. I had heard that the stock Dunlops just don't hold up?

  ..... Goooooood one!.... Ya know, I'm sure there will be several more blue quads there by the end of the day. Well, maybe I should say black and blue. Some CATS can carry quite an attitude ya know.... :p laugh

Nice looking ride Recon!

Re: HOOSIER HUNTING QUAD RIDE - 12/26/2008 11:07 PM

Yeah, yeah, might have to come up with something like: "WINTER REDNECK ATV OLYMPICS" or something. That way we can shut up all the Kitty's....lmao

wtlhaven, thanks, I really like it, looks like my evarts ride might be in jeopardy of being cancelled, the LT in Afghanistan that the ride was for, is still there waiting on equipment to be shipped out. So I'm really looking forward to this ride.

I also posted that we are riding next Saturday at Interlake if anyone is interested, come on and ride. Should be plenty of mud!

Guys, had to hook the winch up tonight in 2 different spots. The new rope works great. Since the woods has been logged all the trails are smeary. I was pulling a 4x8 trailer with target stands is the reason I got stuck though. Usually HONDAS will never get stuck. Ya Know.

Momma Bear and I are hoping to get our conversion van by then so we can crash in that instead of a tent.

wtlhaven is bringing lilhaven. I will probably come up to the house about 4-5p.m. and hang out with the little girl, but anyone who wants to stay can. Theres plenty of parking/camping spots. Should be a good time.

Hey wtlhaven how old is lilhaven? My daughter is 13 and she loves to get muddy on some ATV rides.

How many are staying the night? Or are most people only going for the day? We need to figure out this stuff so we can make plans.

Re: HOOSIER HUNTING QUAD RIDE - 01/01/2009 06:05 PM

Bear, he will be 9 then. He'll have his quad, but depending on how things are on the trails, he may just ride with me. His quad don't have much ground clearance so if it's muddy, he will be stuck at every hole. Then if there's much snow at all, he won't be going anywhere either. It's kind of a wait and see thing for him.

As of right now, we are not planning on spending the night.
Posted By: fullrut

Re: HOOSIER HUNTING QUAD RIDE - 01/01/2009 08:32 PM

Most of the trails are easy riding. Kids will be able to ride almost all of the trails. There will always be easy ways around the tough spots. Not too many tough spots here. Most of the trails are flat or moderate hills. All kids are welcome, after all that is the future of our sport. Bring on the kids.

Recon, A new belt just for being under water and/or mud? Is that an easy item to mess up on those?

Re: HOOSIER HUNTING QUAD RIDE - 01/01/2009 10:28 PM

Well, as you can see I was nose in, so in reverse, its all high gear ratio, plus I had to leave the quad for about a 45 min walk home, called a buddy and then went back out. By the time I got back to it, alot of the sand and water pretty much glued the wheels in place, and when I gave it throttle the wheels would not move, probably burnt the belt at that time. The picture doesn't do it justice, it was like clay/glue. Being only a high gear ratio didn't help, not like low gear in forward motion. But yes, because of the torque of the Brutes, the belts will go long before any tranny or engine parts. Once stuck, get pulled out.. A clutch kit would help and I'm looking into that next.

If it's open to anyone I would like to come. I just purchased a new quad from Farm and Fleet. She's 4 wheel drive and one sweet ride. I don't have a trailor or a truck but if I measured correctly it should just fit in the back of my van. My buddy haulled it up to my place after we bought it. I don't think he can come though.

Ok so just to make sure we are all on the same page. smile

We are meeting at Chris’s place at 10: am Sat the 31st for the ride.

The ride will last until around 4 or 5 pm or until your good and tired. smile

Any ideas as for lunch and beverages?
Should we make it a group effort or just bring what you want for your individual groups?

How many miles of trails are there? Will we need extra gas?

Will we be riding as a group? Or each to his/her own, at his/her own pace?

Thanks
Bear.
Posted By: fullrut

Re: HOOSIER HUNTING QUAD RIDE - 01/25/2009 06:50 PM

You will not need gas as long as you are full at the time of arrival. Beverages are up to you. If you want to drink adult beverages that is fine as some of the guides will be. As far as food I would say bring your own or we can go up to Etown for lunch, about a 10 minute truck drive. Probably will be too cold for a cookout. We only have 175 acres so we will cover it in a hurry. If you want to ride on your own that is fine, but I would imagine we will ride as a group. The main thing is we have a good time and get some good riding in. Look forward to meeting you all.

Kevin, Kevin, Kevin..... Unless I run out of gas, I won't be needing pulled, and I'll be sure to fuel up good so I don't have to worry about that. You may want to hook that strap to the front of your Honda instead of the back though. Might save you from having to dig it out of the snow later on when you get stuck.... laugh

Chris, How much snow did you all end up with???? Did you have any ice???? We had around 5"s of snow, then an ice crust about an inch thick, and about 6"s or so of new white stuff on top of that. That ice crust makes for a real pain clearing the driveways.

I'll have to post some pics later....

Anything specific you want us to bring?

We can bring some chips, and a side dish or two.

Some pop or adult beverages if anyone wants anything specific.

Do you need any cups, or plates, or serving stuff?

Just let us know.

I will be bringing three ATV’s with four people at 10am then later around 11:30 or noon I have one more girl being dropped off after soft ball practice, so I will need to meet her at your barn and then catch up with the group.

What a great ride Chris! Thank you and your dad for hosting this ride, what a great time!

I really liked meeting everyone and putting a face with the forum names.

My daughter and her friends had a ball, thanks to everyone for making them feel welcome and helped them along the way. They were really tired when we got home. And trust me that is a good thing. laugh

Can’t wait till next time.

Thanks again Chris!

Bear.

Sorry everyone that I missed the ride. I would have enjoyed it for sure. Sounds like a good time. We ended up camping all weekend at the lake since my quad was down. Sure was surprised at how cold it got. I'll try to come down next weekend.

Re: HOOSIER HUNTING QUAD RIDE - 02/01/2009 08:07 PM

Hey Fullrut I am thinking about buying one of those windshields like you have for your quad. I was just wondering if you think it would fit in a van with that on there or should I remove it during transport. I was also wondering if anyone has some detailed plans for constructing a set of loading ramps from plywood.

Re: HOOSIER HUNTING QUAD RIDE - 02/01/2009 09:23 PM

Camping at the lake? Hogdaddy you must be one tough dude. I don't think we are riding this weekend, but next time we do ride I definitely will let you know. We are all really looking forward to meeting you. Ripley if I were you I would just haul your ride on top of your Volkswagon van, not in it. You could probably just make a windsheild out of plywood. Sure would be alot cheaper than a Honda one.

Re: HOOSIER HUNTING QUAD RIDE - 02/09/2009 10:20 PM

The snow is finally off so I will look for it tomorrow. Did you have a good time with PO Cory. I am booking his house for labor day. did you stay in the white one accross from him or the double wide next door too him? Did he take you to the white rocks?
Posted By: recon33alpha

Re: HOOSIER HUNTING QUAD RIDE - 02/10/2009 09:43 AM

Po was great, stayed in the white house, the only thing I didn't like is it didn't have a garage like his other rental.. Heck of a guy,,don't think we went to white rocks, we did some on park Friday then on Saturday I went with a group to Martins fork, via jones creek, stopped in Cawood for fuel and food. A 12 hour ride if that tells you anything...You should really consider changeing from Labor day to the first weekend in August for the club to club ride if possible,,,check it out chris, will be camping instead of paying for rentals so it would be cheaper in that since?
Posted By: fullrut

Re: HOOSIER HUNTING QUAD RIDE - 02/10/2009 05:46 PM

Cawood is a neat little place isn't it.
