Lift kit and tires for 05 F150 - 01/30/2008 11:26 AM

Guys, Since I've got my truck paid off I'm wanting to start tinkering with it. I have a few questions concerning a lift kit and new tires since I've never really been into this before. I'm torn between the leveling kit and a 4 inch lift. Which would be better looking? Then depending on the lift what kind of tires would I need to get? What price should I expect to pay? Thanks in advance.

If it were me, I'd go 6 inch and 35's. The 4 inch Rancho cost as much as most of the 6 inch kits. The leveling kits put a strain on your upper control arms and also put your CV's in a bad angle....I would avoid those. If its mostly a street queen, a stage one 6 inch from Pro Comp or Fabtech will cost $1500 or less (Ive seen 6" Pro Comp on ebay for around $1100). Most 6" kits will keep your steering geometry, CV angle, and upper control arms same as stock. I've got an 07 F-150 that's gonna get 6" and 35's soon.

Hey, I forgot to tell you that you can get a lot more info and a ton of pics on f150online.com in the forums section. Look under suspension, there are actually two suspension sections, one is under aftermarket. I'm not a member there but tune in from time to time to check out all the cool looking F-150s on there.

Thanks for the info. I actually work for Ford so I get to see alot of the guys' trucks that I work with. They have some bad looking trucks and I figured that its about time to do something with mine. If I get anything done I'll post some pics. On a side note if anyone is looking into buying a new ford contact me and I can get ya a discount for nothing at all.

You work at KTP or LAP in Louisville? I bought mine back in February through a friend that works at KTP, I was very satisfied with the deal, saved a ton. Hey yeah, post up some pics of that bad boy when you get it lifted....What model you got? I got an all red (grill, door handles, bumpers) FX4 crew...Love it.

That's cool. Which vehicle do you guys build transmissions for?

We build the tranny's for the super duty's and such. We also make gears and other parts for every transmission in the Ford system. So you could say that we essentially touch every tranny that Ford makes in one way or the other. Most if not all of our tranny's go to KTP.

Well it just depends on what you want. If you go with a 4-6" lift then you are going to have to put on some pretty large tires to make it look right. If you go with tires larger than a 33" then you will want to regear to bring it back to the right power band or otherwise your truck will be a real dog. You can fit up to a 35" tire with the 2.5" leveling kit. The leveling kits are easy to install and don't put that much stress on your drive train. There are a lot of people running the 2.5" leveling kits with no problems at all. I love my my leveling kit and how it makes my truck look. I sit a lot taller than a stock F150 and it's just the right amount of lift. I installed 33-12.50x17 Cooper STT mud tires on too and they are the best mud tire I have ever ran. They are great in the mud, quiet on the road and good on snow and wet pavement. The leveling kit was $100 and the tires were $1200. I am running factory wheels right now but will be replacing them very soon. Here is a pic of what my 06 F150 looks like with the lift and tires.
