Coyote Hunting Now Has a Season?? - 08/26/2016 06:05 PM
Just wondering... I thought that coyotes had an open season 365 days a year in the past. I check the last 4 or 5 years and it seems that it has always been October 15, 2016 – March 15, 2017
Was it ever 365 days per year?
I checked Illinois and it is Year round (Statewide) minus a few deer hunting days.
Coyote and Striped Skunk Closed Nov. 18 - 20 and through 6 p.m. Nov. 20 and closed Dec. 1 - 4 to 1/2 hr. after sunset;
and through 6 p.m. Dec. 4 in counties open for firearm deer huntinge

365 in Indiana on PRIVATE land, only with Landowner's written permission!
But I believe you can not possess or keep the animal/hide outside of the Indiana "season"!

I just don't understand why they don't start the season Oct 1 when hunters are hitting the woods.... instead you have to wait 15 days?!?!?

Because the bow hunters don't want to share the woods with trappers, coyote hunters any sooner than they have to,
And.. To give pelts a chance to be closer to prime. Canines prime earlier than say beaver, which don't hit prime until about Christmas
Off season hides are worthless for keeping anyway

That part was tongue in cheek, mostly
Seasons are set to coincide with prime sellable fur
