food plot? - 11/30/2015 09:57 PM

im looking to plant food plots next year. I have gained a great place to hunt but once the crops are gone were not holding any deer. looking at something that is throw and go so I can no till. am debating on forage radishes v. a premixed batch. Also im wanting to plant something in early spring that will attract turkeys to the property.

The property is 90 aceres with abot 60 tillable and 20 wooded. part of the woods it very thick with briars and the other is nice and clear.
suggestions?

Sounds pretty good right now. I like clovers mixed with oats or rye to get started. I bet the tangled briar patch woods is your answer. Google Earth it and consider other hunting pressure, food sources, bedding areas, wind direction, fence rows, funnels etc.

read those labels carefully, most of the throw/grow varieties are rye grass seed. Thats right, grass seed marked up about 500% in price

check out this place for seed, they have good stuff. You can email Don also and he can recommend based on your soil type, plot size, when you plan to hunt it, etc.

You can get the same seed cheaper at the local co op or feed store too if you know what you want and have them mix it for you.
