Canned Deer Hunt amendment - 03/19/2013 06:23 PM

Matt Ubelhor, Don Lehe, Sean Eberhart maybe more are going to amend Brent Steele's SB 487 to include legalization of Canned Hunting. I am sure Steele will accept the amendment to his bill. He's not with us.

It seem the new Governor is on board with this, the Lt. Governor as well as she voted for it last time. So the DNR will not do anything.
I would suggest if hunters care about their sport and their deer herd they contact their house reps now as well as the media and get the word out on social media as well. We have had TB in a couple of captive herds, wild deer shot by sharpshoters as a precation. We have had escaped deer get loose including one from the captive herd in PA that tested positive. So sportsmen it's in you hands not the DNR. They work for Governor Pence not you.

Re: Canned Deer Hunt amendment - 03/19/2013 08:40 PM

Doug, it is/was only a matter of time and there is/was no way Pence would stand in the way of this. Sportsmen blew this years ago because they 1) are not really organized and 2) didn't play hardball then. Additionally, they didn't engage the "soccer mom's" into battle and that was a HUGE mistake in my opinion. Losing this also emphasizes the lack of influence that sportsmen have, including any organized effort that is in place today. Now, that said, there are a lot of guys who have put forth a lot of time and effort for a long time on this and other efforts, but unless folks really play to win, there is little point in the legislative environment that government has evolved into. If not this year, next year or the next unless the general public, not sportsmen, speak up and reject these operations.

Re: Canned Deer Hunt amendment - 03/25/2013 02:06 PM

Sure looks that way Jack. Now if anyone has free time next Monday they continued the hearing until that time. They could not get thru the people who wanted to comment today. 10:30 am next Monday and room 156A I believe.

You don't have the time? please take 10 minutes then and comment to the Governor and or your Legislator bbefore the week ends.

There is a "new" twist to this, the ammendment is only for the 4 or 5 shooting preserves now in existance! No new ones could be started. I heard the Deer and Elk farmers Association is upset, they were lied to by the preserve owners.... And they said they are all honest.....lol.

Re: Canned Deer Hunt amendment - 03/26/2013 03:46 PM

Quite frankly folks the people who have been fighting this issue for a decade "are out of cards to play". This issue will be decided in the next couple of weeks. As one person said yesterday at the state house, "There is pressure to defeat this, but not enough.".

So here is your final chance to help end canned hunting in Indiana. Below is a list of the House Reps on the committee and contact info. Email them and or call as well as the Governor, TODAY!

For those of you who have committee members as your house rep you can be very influential. They will take a persons comment in "their" district very serious as YOU might vote them out of office. Be polite but firm in your comments, remind them their vote will influence your vote next election.

Sean Eberhart of Shelbyville should be a main focus. If you live in Shelby county or have family and friends who you can contact please do.Sean can kill the ammendments if he wishes.

Don't forget the governor!

We will again be at the meeting next Monday, but I can say this one is up to you.......

Heck I just called the whole list (except Rep. Ubelhor) and urged them all to vote no.....

I do know that Rep. Pelath is on board and his aide said that they have gotten quite a few calls today urging him to vote against this....
