30 degrees at daybreak, 52 and sunny by noon. Grouse and deer with the woods dead quiet with no wind. 2 for 3 on steelhead and one brown. Hot n tots and egg flies contributing Passed on the fly only waters and fished heavy cover and deep runs. Bean, their calling for you!

Wow!!! Great fish and picture!!!!! Man I'm needing to get on the water soon!!! Killin' coyotes to pass the time isn't cutting it any more!!!! laugh

Dave, did you ever figure out a GOOD pair of 100% waterproof neoprene fishing gloves? Cheap ones I bought (not cheap $$ wise) still leaked at the seams!!!

Re: It's Spring! - 03/13/2015 09:33 PM

Never really have. The new gloves I got for my wife wicks away the water really well, but I would not say they are waterproof and they aren't neoprene. I agree that the seams seem to breakdown quickly.

Wait...you saw some grouse? Worth the trip! Thanks for sharing.

Re: It's Spring! - 03/14/2015 10:33 AM

Juggler, they had about ten inches of snow still through out most of the area and the grouse were walking along the roads and river banks. Our buddy up there said the grouse hunting last year was very good in the area.

Very Nice!
I caught some small rainbows today that were stocked last fall. Was nice to be out in the sun and have the rod bending...

Re: It's Spring! - 03/16/2015 06:35 PM

NICE!!!

may I ask, what is the glove for?

protect the fish's slime coating?

Re: It's Spring! - 03/16/2015 07:18 PM

Better hold on them and the dang glove is slimy enough to help protect them.

I'll be getting the boat out this weekend and do a little fishing myself! Hopefully I can start the year out right and catch a few! Last year of all the times I went, I was only skunked once! Caught at least one every time but the once! Hope to not get skunked at all this year!

Re: It's Spring! - 03/18/2015 12:13 PM

I already got my skunkin out of the way monday but did hear turkeys gobbling. Water is way backed up from the Ohio. I thought the creeks would be getting good but the best I could find were still high greenish and murky.

I got my boat out today and fired it up to get all the fogging agent out, put on a new trolling motor, new flasher and a 12v auxiliary plug in. It will be a few weeks before ice is gone from the lakes up here. Im planning on fishing for trout and salmon on Lake Michigan soon as ice is off. They catch a lot of fish just off shore early. h.h.

I'll be hitting up the old stripper pits around the Greene-Sullivan County Line! Some of the best fishing in Southern Indiana!

Re: It's Spring! - 03/19/2015 01:50 PM

I'm itching to get on the strip pits too. Spent a lot of time on those lakes in the last 25 years or so.

Is there no easy way to add photo's to this site from an Iphone? I have no need for a site such as photobucket.
Caught some nice walleye yesterday and been doing well on some rainbow trout stocked last fall.

Re: It's Spring! - 03/20/2015 05:35 PM

I have photobucket on my Iphone and it is easier than my pc.

Congrats on walleye. Lake or river?

Good thought Bean, especially since you were my IT guy last spring! I'll try it out. It always seems difficult for me too.
