Ready to Fish ! - 04/07/2014 07:44 PM

Got the boat out of the barn, cleaned it up good, charging batteries, put new registration and lake launch decals on, greased bearings, aired up tires and spare, checked lights, etc.

Will go through the tackle tomorrow, get new line on a couple rigs and get all of that gear ready to go. With any kind of luck the weather will shape up and I'll be chasing crappies this weekend.

I took the floor out of my FM 161 today because it was rotten. I inherited this boat from my dad last year and someone tried to fix it half azzed. I took every thing out and all the old boards up. Priced marine grade plywood at 47.00 a sheet. I should have it back together by Friday and on the water this weekend. One of my old charter buddies wants me to come up and fish with him on Erie next week so I might do that. h.h.

Slipped down to the pond for a few minutes this evening and promptly landed three nice bluegills. First open water fish of the season for me.

HH - I picked up a nice 16' Lund deep vee several years ago that someone had jerry rigged all up, added platforms, etc. trying to turn it into some kind of bass boat. Bet I peeled 200 lbs of water logged lumber and junk carpet out of that thing. Re-built it to original, much lighter, goes faster, handles better, safer, etc. Nice boat now.

Im heading to Menards today for the wood and carpet. Menards is the only box store up here that carries marine grade plywood. I should end up with about $250 in the whole project.

Stieny, Cleaning out the rotten boards and leaves will take me half of the day. Once i get started replacing the wood it shouldnt take long. I took out all the furniture and console down to just the hull and foam and all the wood is on 4' centers. If all goes well it should be ready for the water by this weekend. h.h.

I need to get mine out and cleaned up some but it was in the garage all winter. Looking forward some bluegill and crappies.

Anyone had any Crappie luck in Indiana yet?
