Numbers were down on first day...they said about half of normal harvest. Likely due to the "no help" policy this year. No rides in or out, although we did call and request a ride out and they obliged for 4 of us.

We were close to 3miles in, and heck of a trip out with 2 small bucks! We made it about half way out and it was 5:30...guys in front of us thankfully got cell signal and called for a ride. Would have been out there late!

Definitely recommend a deer cart, and choose hunt location wisely based on drag/cart pull distance.

Good luck!

Animalhouse,
that's why I quit going on that hunt...I live rather close to it and killed deer every time I went, but MY GOSH the terrain is horrible! I'm 45 yrs old and in as good of shape as anyone my age, but I can't drag deer up and over 3-4 enormous ridges. I've always been one to drag it downhill to the nearest road and walk back and get the truck. But in there, the roads are ON TOP.

Gotta be a better way to do it? Maybe stop the hunt for an hour or two each day and allow 4-wheelers in to retrieve deer? Idk?

Went today set up stands for wife and i. We welled an hour back in there it looked like a major interstate in the bottom where we set stand about 500 yards apart. Found about 30 scraps a few had been worked and about 80 rubs hopefully we can kill a few decent ones be long drag out

Was there for hunt one and b back on Monday. Was told most deer shot were pretty far in. I shot a Forky myself, long drag out. First hunt I literally had my hammer freeze on the 44 while trying to shoot a doe! Would pull back but not lock in place, 27yrs hunting and that's a new one. Prob scout tomorrow for different tree tho.
