81,676 as of Nov. 23rd .... waay up over last year at this time ... will the anterless tag reduction slow down at the end of regular gun and the end of the season as there isnt a Late Doe gun ?? ..... the Jan. urban/reduction zone kill is usually only a fraction of the overall kill ..

ok, only in those counties (19), I was thinking that since they went to a 2 Bonus, that also stopped the kill all the Does Dec. gun season.. guess not, ... .. thank goodness we dont have it here (for now) ... one would think they'd have dropped it in those 19 counties since the DNR was so concerned about the EHD kill there .....

Joe Caudell has created a new interactive harvest data website. Includes up to date county harvest totals by weapon and season.

as I have always feared .. crossbow kill is now higher than Bow kill (as of date)..... smh ....

Re: 2019 Current Reported Deer Harvest - 11/27/2019 12:47 AM

It seems to be the trend in many states that allow both types of bows.

Just like pcrs and hprs have taken over the harvest of deer from slug guns during firearms season.

sad to see IMO ..... the DNR should have kept them in the Firearms season and later with the other shoulder fired weapons ...

As of today (Jan 10), there have been 17,096 deer killed with crossbows versus 15,852 deer killed with vertical bows in the 2019/20 deer season. The grand total is 32,948 deer with all types of bows with the difference between crossbows and vertical bows coming in @ 1,244 deer, which is nowhere near a 2 to 1 ratio.

My local archery shop tells me he is still selling way more compounds (mostly mathews or hoyt) than crossbows. Crossbows get boring quick once you get them dialed in

Re: 2019 Current Reported Deer Harvest - 01/14/2020 12:02 AM

Last year I bought the new Mathews Traverse and I asked about guys buying many crossbows and he said they do buy them but alot of guys go back to the compound. To me a compound is less hassle. It is easier to carry, easier to maneuver in a tree and easier to get a 2nd shot if need be. Also you don't have to shoot the darn thing out after each hunt. I do have a cheap Barnett Raptor but really don't like the whole crossbow deal.

I would agree with hunting in a tree with a crossbow. I don't really care for it either. But in a ground blind or shooting house, I'll take the crossbow any day.

Never, not me ...BOW only !! ... traditional or compound is waaaaaay more challenging... if I want to shoot something with a rifle scope, monte carlo stock, using a bipod/ tri pod, I'll use my ML or slug gun or one of the new Winchester 350 legends (rifle) ... btw, I havnt gun hunted since 2013, and I still fill my tags (2 Archery), thats enough for me .... yea, I still dont like crossbows in the BOW season

That's the beauty of having multiple choices of equipment to choose from. You can hunt with a trad bow, an hpr or somewhere in between.
