so disguested right now - 10/26/2013 08:33 PM

went hunting with the brother and lady this morning. i got permission to hunt some new property this year so thats where we were. had a couple does that were running between us and i finally mqnaged to get one to stop at thirty eight yards. had a softball size hole to shoot through. well i made it through the hole just fine but missed. it was the ladies first time so she was just happy to see deer. so after our hunt we hung a two man ladder stand on the property. i go back this evening and the stand is on the ground in pieces my blind is trashed and full of garbage all my lanes have sticks blockibg them off. im still not sure exactly what happened. i dont know if i interuppted them trying to steal it or they are ticked im there. im only one with permission on this property but it ajoins another. yes i was on my property and no i wasent on the lines. when i walked in i heard them laughing and this set me off the edge. not knowing if threy were armed i ran home got the gun and went back. i never found them. im still hot over the situation. i left a nice note on my blind with phone number. i hope they call so we can have a nice talk. worst part of the whole situation is the home owner told me they dont want any trouble and i couldnt hunt anymore. what would ypu do?

Sounds like you've ran into some worthless folks. The landowner probably knows how worthless and troublesome those people are and simply doesn't want to deal with them. Can't hardly blame him. tough situation.

I never ever take my issues to the land owner cause this is exactly what happens when you bring the problems to them, most are leary about letting people hunt to begin with and dont wanna deal with any problems. I would have dealt with it at the time also, going home and getting the gun was just asking for trouble.

the house and asked about me hunting. and im pretty sure if you walked into what i did without a weapon you would have bailed out to. hearing someone laughinh at you and giggling after they wrecked your stuff doesnt set well when you cant see where theyare.

The gun was not a bad idea psearchery, i would have done the same not knowing what their intentions were and obviously they werent happy with you, people dont understand thinking the gun was asking or trouble, it wasnt inteneded for use just therein case things got hairy, great thinking

There is no deer in the World worth risking your safety over. Take the "high road" and chalk it up to one of life's lessons. There are better places to hunt, and better days ahead.

Id still inform the local CO, and dont let them bully you out of a good area.

Yes, I would get the ICO involved.

"Running home to get your gun" is only going to escalate things.

Im not one to "call the law", but I recently had to come to the conclusion that a conversation with the Game Warden was my best option. By the Grace of God I have maintained permission on all my propertys, however, the past five years have deposited hunters on two property lines of a pie shaped farm. One of these aholes tried to tell me I was tresspassing on our first encounter, but I got him lined out on the matter...Now, he likes to leave his stand too early, and drive laps around a cut field, cause he knows I'm just inside the woodline hunting the trails out.(I don't think either of us have killed a deer in the evening since our first encounter) When I started having to fight the urge to shoot him I decided to call the law, and it turns out, what he's doing is called "hunter harrassment" by the State of Indiana.....Prolly your best option too.... I dont know where you stand with the landowner, but if you can work something out with him, DON'T be run out. If you'll run, they will let you.

thanks everyone for the help and input. the problem being is the property that adjoins my property is owned by a trust company and is just twenty five acres of woods and a lake. noone lives there. i have done all i can to locate the owner to no prevail. im going to continue my research and see what i can find. and just cause i pulled my stuff out doesnt mean i wont appear back out during the season. calling co will do no good as i have no clue who did it.

I was just basing off the fact the owner said you couldnt hunt anymore, figured you went to them

Did you try the county GIS system. Find out who is paying taxes on it. That should eventually lead you to the owner.

Re: so disguested right now - 10/30/2013 09:02 AM

yes hoosier hunter. it is a trust company. i sent a letter to the address it had in florida of the owners and it was returned to me. i am giving up for now as its not worth the fight. i have my clue who did it as i have seen him out around here all week. just have to be able to prove it was him. the reason i was so mad is cause this is the first private property ive had to myself and it is loaded with deer. but thats part of it i guess.

Re: so disguested right now - 10/30/2013 09:14 AM

This is EXACTLY why I hunt public land. Every couple of months someone who's been hunting the same farm their entire life gets on here and says" all you have to do is knock on doors to get permission" or "Your just lazy". Well I'm full aware that if I knock on enough doors I will indeed get permission to hunt. Fact is, it doesn't take very long to gain permission. Problem is that if they will let ME hunt, they'll let ANYBODY HUNT. Hence situations like mewntioned here.
THIS is exactly why I gave up "knocking on doors." Good luck with getting the CO involved and I love when guys sit behind a keyboard and say how they'd go whip somebody's a$$ over this.

Heck I've heard enough stories the last couple of years about the nightmares of running in to the landowners relatives on opening day on a LEASE!
