My dad Took my oldest son (I was squirrel hunting with the 4 yr old), he passed a good 8 for him. It was around 110", but he said he'd rather shoot a buck with a bow. Only thing he was gonna shoot with a gun was a "big" deer. He's only 10, kid is gonna be a picky one but I love that he wants to shoot a buck with a bow that bad. It was flat out HOT as well. We will be out Sunday for sure.

Lainey and I decided it was too hot so we did a daddy-daughter date Saturday and hike at Eagle Creek in the morning on Sunday before it got too bad. We'll be out when it gets cooler and the bugs get gone.

I'll definitively be bowhunting this weekend. 46 in the morning on Sunday is plenty cool for me.

speaking of Bugs... while I was out checking a few stand locations last Fri (93 degrees !)... the eye gnats/buffalo/cattle gnats were terrible... I had dozens around my head zooming for the eye's... If I get one of those darn things in the eye, I'm screwed as I wear contacts...I despise them more than skeeters... they are like kamikaze as they go for the eyes with no warning.... they have all but chased me out of stands before in early season, and a Thermacell dosnt stop 'em either...

I had 4 of my grandkids down to our property in Jefferson county for the youth weekend hunt, they ranged in ages from 10-12. Saturday morning my grandson got a nice doe and then that evening my grand daughter made a great shot on a 5 point buck. Both of these were there first deer. Another grandson missed a buck Saturday evening, this kid got a nice 8 point last year during the youth hunt. It was a busy weekend but we all had a great time, many lifetime memories made.

As usual, CBF hosted a great hunt. Joe, Bill, and Dustin worked hard to get things ready for the youth.

Daniel killed a bb and was able to be mentored by his grandpa. I know that meant a lot to him.

Evan killed a tasty doe and was mentored by the best guide he could have - Zeb. smile

Luke had his chances but didn't make them count.

Gracie (10) missed a good doe.

All in all, it was a great weekend as usual. It was just so hot.

Thanks Cedar Branch for another fun weekend. There were many bucks passed up but the youth didn't care about that - they never have. It is always about the experience and fellowship together.

Good to hear Cedar Branch is still hosting youth hunts, great program.

Look forward to when my first grandson is old enough to take out on my farm. That'll be a while since he's only 1 now smile
