Projects and goals

Projects and goals - 06/17/2017 12:37 PM

Starting to get ready for the Fall. We usually are done with trimming, new setups, plots, and cam locations by the end of July.

A few of our places are not where you can get any motorized equipment to, so it is weedeater and roundup time. Sometimes i can get the push mower and 4-wheeler back there. Luke and I went to look last week and we got a bunch of sweating to do. It pays off big for us though.

This year personally, I am going to try and go back to basics. I have an Omega longbow on order. Looking to kill a decent buck with the traditional equipment. I have killed several does in the past but never a buck. I tend to put a lot of pressure on myself for a giant and that is okay for me most years. I am going to just focusing on fun and getting a decent buck this year.

I have just a few more seasons with Luke in the house. Going to make the most of it.

You guys doing anything? Have timetables? Goals for the 2017 season?

Hard to do when I only hunt state lands now, most of my trimming and finding new stand locations was done back in March/Feb... I do miss having good private as I enjoyed doing food plots and such...cant do that on the F&W areas ... good luck for those guys that do have that private to play on .....

I make some roomy ones out of cattle panels that work great. Not very mobile but work great with kids and not very expensive. I will see if I can post a pic or two.

I will be building a couple more this year.

Last week I dropped about 35 big cedars and dead ash trees in the center of my woods to open it up for brows and a bedding area. Also planted 9 chestnut trees and started getting the ground ready for a few food plots. October will be here before we know it.

A old cattle panel, 5 8' pieces of 1" pvc, 1-2 T-posts, some black plastic and old carpet pieces and the blind is big enough for 3-4 people - oh and I can usually do one for the cost of the pcv and plastic.

I agree - some things $$ just cant buy. Keep up the good work and enjoy.

Bean I am eatin it up. Just so you know if y'all remember 4 years ago I asked for everyone's prayers as the oldest had his heart surgery. Many put there prayers out there but you were the only one who sent me a pm and had a private conversation with me and I really thank you for that! Hunt on life is good

Got some logging roads greened up with clover and rye. 3 chestnuts and some papaws in the ground too. Been helping out others with mowing and establishing some new plots. 3 cams running and seeing lots of fawns and moms. Ticks seem bad, had a doe on cam with an ear that was ate up.

My goal is to get a big buck down in archery this year. I'll be using an Excalibur crossbow most if the time and plan on hitting it hard late Oct and early Nov. Later gun opener makes archery very attractive this fall......may also try to hunt KY public this fall too, as I already have the non res from turkey.

I usually don't start until after the 4th of July. I used to plant food plots, but can't do it larger than 1/2 acre, so I decided against it.

I do like trimming, cutting, patterning and strategizing for 2-5 months, though.

Sounds like we have some great guys on here makin' their own luck. Love it.
