Reserved deer hunt for young hunters at Beaver Lake NP
------------------------
LaSalle Fish and Wildlife Area will host a Youth Deer Hunt at Beaver Lake Nature Preserve in Newton County on Nov. 17 and 18, which is the first weekend of Indiana's Deer firearm season.
Deer herd reductions are sometimes required at state parks and nature preserves to maintain a deer herd size that is compatible with the ecosystem of each state property.
Ten young hunters will be allowed to hunt the preserve under controlled conditions each day. Chosen hunters must be 15 years old or younger on the day of the hunt, and must be accompanied by an adult older than 18.
The youth must have a valid license and comply with all deer hunting regulations. Any legal deer may be harvested.
Register by calling LaSalle FWA at (219) 992-3019, or Willow Slough FWA (219) 285-2704 between Oct. 1 and Nov. 4.
The drawing will be at LaSalle FWA on Nov. 5 at 10 a.m. local time. Drawn hunters need not be present. Winners will be notified by mail.

Goose Pond Fish and Wildlife Area manager Brad Feaster will hold an informative Goose Pond FWA meeting Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. at the Triple H Gun Club south of Linton.
Feaster will explain 2007-08 hunting season procedures at the 8,000-acre DNR property. He will also update the public on Goose Pond's wetland restoration, as well as answer general questions and listen to suggestions.
"We are trying an adaptive management approach to allocating hunting opportunities at Goose Pond FWA," said Feaster. We hope to develop better hunting experiences."
Goose Pond FWA is between the towns of Linton and Sandborn. The Triple H Gun Club is several miles south of Linton on State Route 59.
