Well not sure about the rest of you but this season has been my toughest yet it is my 12th season turkey hunting.

I started with 6 days in Georgia and saw just one tom, did not get a shot.

Then youth hunt we heard at least 7 different gobblers and did not see one turkey.

My main property I had seen 9 tom's and 5 jakes in the first 2 days of hunting.

This season I've seen ONE, and he is dead. Been hearing them, not seeing them or hearing gobbling on the ground.

I was able to take this guy on Friday 5/2/14 in the afternoon at about 4pm after a long stalk along a river edge/bottom.

Mr Harmon and I had stepped out for a bite of lunch, when we came back at 2:30 we saw a tom in strut with a hen in the field about 500 yards away. We took the back way into the woods and were able to crawl the last 40 yards into the blind on the field edge. He was still 350 yards away and not budging off that hen.

So we decided I would try to sneak along the river and try to get a shot before they flew across the river. After about a 45 minute sneak I got to a spot I could not go further without getting into the open. I heard a cluck, peaked out and the hen was only 20 feet from me.

I knew I had the tom at that point because I knew he wasn't leaving that hen. After ten minutes on my knee's I decided to slowly stand up using a tree for cover. As I got up I saw him, 53 yards away in full strut. I waited, thinking he would come closer. Well after about 5 minutes my one leg was starting to shake from the position I was in so with a 12 gauge, shooting 3.5" shells and a really good choke out to 65 yards I decided to shoot. Bingo, stoned him dead on the spot.

However I recently scoped that gun and I did get a battle scar from the scope. I did not notice my adjustable stock had closed all the way shut and I got scoped.

sorry long winded story, here are the pics

Nice bird and glad you'll recover from the self inflicted wound!

No I believe when I was crawling through the brush, over the tree's , through the weeds, briar and crap I must have shut it by accident.

When I stood up I really didn't even look, just raised my gun and took off the safety. When I realized the tom wasn't coming any closer I just drew my aim down on his head and let it fly.

yeah.. I went to a scope because my buddy did because his eye sight was going and he was having trouble in low light detecting beard length.

This happened to me in Georgia a couple years ago. Had a gobbler coming right to me but I could not tell if it was a jake or tom because the angle and low light.
