Well I have to say this has been one of the hardest seasons I've ever had. I've passed several bucks this season in the 130 range and the one buck I wanted just didn't work out. I almost cried after taking this deer this morning. He's a young deer but having the season I did I just couldn't hold off.

Pic is blurry as my wife dropped camera in the snow but you didn't hear me complaining lol

Very nice buck, love hunting in the snow.

Don't get me wrong I was beyond happy with this buck. This is the first shooter buck since November 8th. Our farm was logged this year with corn going down in mid september. Any corn germinated quick on second growth. Acorn mast was zero and to top it off neighboring corn stood forever. I also think we got hit with another round of EHD late summer. It appeared we've lost a entire age group on bucks. Lots of 1.5 and 2.5yr olds but the 3 and 4 were far and few between. Mature doe were lacking.

Overall a tough season so when the hammer fail I was overcome with it being over. I know the deer I'd seen on can is still there as my can had him two nights ago. 2am bucks are tough to kill now.

Congrats Jeremy.

I feel your pain on the logging. Everyone says the deer and deer hunting will be better for it.

Just going to take some getting used to....

First off congrats on the deer, secondly our property was logged 2 years ago (a big section of it anyway) and due to the weather it started in sept and went thru january so to say that season was rough was an understatement, so I feel your pain there. But trust me the next few years you are gonna love the results!!!

Nice Buck!
One of the properties we hunt got logged last year. They started logging as soon as the crops were picked and didn't quit till January. They would show up at day lite and quit every day at 4pm. I started hunting the evenings, I would be in the stand at 4pm, and about 45 min after the loggers left I think every deer in the woods was up moving. The hunting was still good, I just had to hunt it a little different. The under brush is getting thicker now and I think it will help the hunting in years to come.

There ain't any thing wrong with that buck at all . And there ain't any thing wrong with a grown man crying after a hard earned harvest is there. If so I am guilty I cried like a little girl after I killed my buck this year. Congrats I have been looking for your picture to show up with a good one

Growing up in Eastern Kentucky our best hunting was about two years after they'd clear cut up in the Daniel boone national forest. I honestly don't think the logging had a major role in lack of deer as much as it was the lack of mast crop and tons of standing corn. There's still a large amount of corn still standing nearby. Our corn did have a fly in of turnips and rye to break up the hard pan. Late late season may bring a lot of deer back.

It was nice sitting here drinking that hot cup of coffee this morning looking outside knowing I wasn't freezing to death

Dandy, Congrats again. I'm ready to drop one off for you. That sleeping in cup of coffee thing sounds pretty good, dangit.
