Getting ready is half the fun.

I have been getting ready for the upcoming trapping season. Dyed our traps a couple days ago and waxed them this evening. Hoosier Trapping Supply DVD was a great help.






Going to be a fun year.

The pictures bring back some memories of many, many years ago.

Looking good but your going to need a longer 2x4 before long. lol.. Last night I added some mid-chain swivels to a dozen 1.5's. And made some drowners for my MB750s.

I have to add new shocks on some of my #3's, and bend, hammer, and straighten some of them out. Coyotes are rough on 'em. Also have 3 or 4 that I have to drill out the pan hinge and install new, bigger tension adjustment screws. The pans are almost like a two stage trigger, and move, stop, and finally slide off the dog. Thats a no-no when coyote trapping. The pan needs to break clean, like a trigger on a good rifle. Once I get all the pan tensions set to 3.5 lbs,, put a light coat of wax, and they should be ready. It just so happens I know where there are a couple coyotes just beggin' for some new jewelry!

This year Im going to try coyote trapping along with snaring. A friend has a lot of traps and he said I could borrow what I needed. Ive been watching videos and feel confident, so yotes beware! h.h.

I have had my traps dyed and waxed since June. I have them in a big plastic tub with some leaves in there and they are just itching to be put in the ground. My passion has always been Bow Hunting deer but for some reason I have trapping on my mind so much this year. Can't wait.

I have gone to using rustoleum spray paint on my predator traps. It is fast and easy and the odor is gone. I speed dip all of my DPs and water traps but won't use this on coyote traps due to the odor.

There is nothing like the look and speed of a dyed and waxed trap!

What color of paint do you use?

primer brown or flat black

truth be told they could be pink, it just does not matter since the trap is under dirt.

Just about there! My coyote skinner ( my father ) got us a new toy to pull those nasty coyotes out.


Got a couple scent posts ready to stick out and let them get used to and using. The holes I drilled are for gland lure after I set the trap. They are on the under side to keep rain out. Unlike a light colored rock, or charred chunk of wood, I figured I better stake these down. I'm sure they would carry them off if they could! I will put these on the "down wind" side of the expected travel routes, as they are mostly visual. I will set a dirt hole that they will smell on the "up wind" side of the travel routes.

Skinning machines are the way to go! I don't catch many critters but it sure saves wear and tear on your body when peeling those hides off. I have used it to lift deer also.

I built mine out of a $60 superwinch on amazon.com and bought a base off a guy in IA who welds them up.

When you get a chance Chevy, could you send me a picture of that in use?

Coyotes are done pretty much exactly same--just longer to pull. I do remove the coyotes front legs with some big loppers/pruners to just pop them through when I get to them.
