Pioneer Beartooth Magnum - 01/10/2015 06:44 PM

Just checking to see if anyone owns a beartooth magnum.I own one with a new barrel and it seems to be just like the cva wolf. If so could you tell me what would be the best bullet and what grain? also is there a preference on the type of powder or pellets to use. I appreciate any advice at all.

Just my opinion since I don't own one. Whether it is a Beartooth, CVA, Encore, or Knight, each rifle has its own grain or bullet preference. What my Encore likes may be different than my friends Encore. Same with your gun

Just shoot and find the sweetspot.

Good luck.

Where I bought my CVA Optima at the guy builds and repairs muzzleloaders for a living and told me using anymore then 90 grains is just burning powder especially if you are shooting under 150 yards...

Son's cva wolf will shoot 250 grain Barnes over 90 grains of powder with very good accuracy. We use cast 45 caliber 250 grain bullets unlubed in the sabots for practice and sighting in....cuz the Barnes are just too expensive. I agree with the 90-100 grains powder being all you need. My guess is that 240 and 250 grain will shoot well in yours. Your gun has a 1 in 28" twist so you could even stabilize heavier bullets. Have used triple 7 loose, Goex fffg and regular pyrodex. He used 209a fed primers but you may want a milder primer for best accuracy.....just what we had. They don't seem too picky and breakdown for cleaning is easy.

No wound pics but PM me w email address and I can send you a pic of a recovered expanded 250 mz. They always look the same, 6 petals and fully expanded. I've recovered 2 under the opposite hide but usually complete pass through. Google search for other pics, they perform very well with consistent expansion (understatement).
