HNF Bird

HNF Bird - 04/29/2014 07:01 AM

Had a great weekend with my son in the Hoosier Nat forest. Pretty good activity and gobbling with a few setups that "almost" came together. This joker didn't see the deke in the logging road but was too fired up to stay away. Took him at about 25 yards trying to sneak in through a nasty pine and cedar thicket. The Winchester xr's did the job. And after shooting my first bird with a scope mounted on my 835 I've decided it may be time to go red dot.....tagged my eyebrow hard w the scope bell. Me and the Turk were both bloody after this one! Great time with my son.....a memorable hunt, now at 20 he is really hitting his stride and doing some nice calling. It's a good feeling to hunt with family successfully. Makes for a great walk out and great memories.

Thanks guys. I was in Perry county on this one. Shooting w scope on bench was great for patterns but not so much in a semi-contorted hunting position. Also thanks to Bean for your help.

Congrats on the bird!
I have used a red dot for several years but wanted magnification for my old eyes and hevi shot shells. Scope helps on the 40 yd+ shots.

I hear that Antiwheeze, I am using a 1.5-4.5 shotgun scope with a circle reticle....because I was having trouble with focusing on the sights and the target. I've got a buddy that has a similar setup but he has a piece of pipe insulation wrapped around end of his scope. Now I remember why!

Thanks Kev & Bo. We were tickled. Not the biggest bird in the woods but he was a two year old ready to play and that made for one memorable hunt.
